Questions
The things people actually ask
If what you need is not here, call or text us — we would rather answer it than have you guess.
Timing
How long does an install take?
Most homes are one to two days. A single room is usually a few hours, a main floor is a full day, and a whole house runs two days or occasionally three if there is a lot of tile to pull first. We give you a real number when we measure, not a guess over the phone.
How soon can you start?
Usually within one to two weeks of you accepting the quote, depending on how booked we are and how long your flooring takes to arrive. If you have a hard deadline — a tenant moving in, family coming to stay — tell us up front and we will tell you honestly whether we can hit it.
Do I need to be home the whole time?
No. We need you there at the start so we can walk through the plan together, and at the end for the final walkthrough. In between you are free to go to work. Plenty of our customers leave us a key or a garage code.
The install
Does LVP need to acclimate first?
Yes, and we do not skip it. Luxury vinyl plank expands and contracts with temperature, so it sits inside your home at normal living temperature for at least 48 hours before we install it. Skipping acclimation is the single most common reason a plank floor buckles or gaps months later.
What is included in the price?
The written quote covers everything we have agreed to: removing the old flooring, hauling the debris away, preparing the subfloor, the installation itself, transitions and thresholds, and reinstalling your baseboards. If something unexpected turns up once the old floor is off — serious subfloor damage, for example — we stop and talk to you before any extra cost happens.
Can you remove my old flooring?
Yes, and most of our jobs start that way. Carpet, pad, tack strip and staples, old laminate and vinyl sheet, and tile with its thinset and backer board. Tile is the hard one and it is the reason many people put the job off. We handle it, and the debris leaves with us rather than sitting in your driveway.
What about my baseboards?
By default we pull them and put them back after the floor goes in, so the plank tucks underneath and the finish looks built-in rather than patched around. We keep them in order so each piece returns to where it came from. If you would rather keep the baseboards in place, we can cover the expansion gap with quarter round instead — just say so when we measure.
Can LVP go over my existing floor?
Sometimes, but we will not do it just to save time. It can work over sound tile or well-stuck vinyl sheet if the surface is flat. It does not work over carpet, cushioned vinyl, or anything loose or uneven. We check the subfloor before quoting and tell you straight which way is right for your house.
Preparing
Do I have to move my furniture?
If you can clear the rooms before we arrive, the job goes faster and costs less. If you cannot, say so and we will quote moving it as part of the work. We ask that you handle anything fragile, valuable or personal yourself — we would rather you pack the china cabinet than trust us with it.
How do I prepare for install day?
Clear the rooms if you can, take things off the walls that might rattle loose, make sure we can park near the door, and plan for pets to be somewhere quiet. There is noise and dust during demo. We control it as best we can, but a cat that bolts for an open door is the one thing we cannot plan around.
Do you supply the flooring or do I buy it?
Either works. We can supply the plank, in which case it is in the quote, or you can buy your own and we install it. If you are buying your own, talk to us before you order — we can tell you how much you actually need including waste, which is usually more than the room measurement suggests.
After
What does the warranty cover?
We warrant our workmanship for two years. If a seam opens, a plank lifts, a transition works loose or anything else fails because of how we installed it, we come back and fix it at no charge. The plank itself carries its own manufacturer warranty, which is separate and usually much longer.
How do I look after an LVP floor?
Sweep or vacuum on a hard-floor setting, and damp mop with a cleaner meant for luxury vinyl. Skip steam mops and anything abrasive. Put felt pads under furniture legs and a mat at the doors that catch the most grit. That is genuinely all there is to it.
What if one plank gets damaged later?
A single plank can usually be replaced without redoing the room, which is one of the real advantages of LVP over sheet vinyl or laminate. We recommend keeping a spare box from your install — matching an exact colour and batch years later is the hard part, not the repair.
